Greetings, Peppermill Lake District Members!

As the summer draws to a close, we are excited to announce our 2024 Annual Meeting, a cornerstone event for our community. This meeting is a vital opportunity for every member to engage in discussions that will shape the future of our beloved lake.

This year, we have several important items on the agenda, including board member elections and updates on our aquatic weed harvesting efforts.

Board Member Elections: Bethany Sansing-Helton and Carla Falzone are up for re-election this year. Their dedication and contributions have been invaluable, and we look forward to their continued involvement. If you want to run for a board position, please submit your name to Nancy Lenz. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor during the meeting.

Aquatic Weed Harvester Update: We are thrilled to announce that on July 1st, we took possession of our new Harvester. The harvester was successfully assembled, topped off with fluids, and launched with the help of several dedicated community members. The first two loads were cut on the west end on July 2nd and 3rd to prepare for boat traffic and the 4th of July parade. Since then, we’ve cut for 11 days and removed eight trailer loads of weeds. Harvesting is taking longer this year due to early ice melt, a warmer winter, and a delayed Harvester delivery. We may need to cut almost every week until fall, and the smaller harvester means it takes longer to cover the same areas. The schedule will be fluid due to weather and other factors, and we’ll respect lake users while cutting.  Thank you to everyone who has helped get our operations up and running this summer (special thanks to Randy Lenz for managing our harvesting operations and Bruce Wood for doing much of the harvesting)!

Aquatic Invasive Species Survey: On June 25th, Cason Land & Water Management conducted an Aquatic Invasive Species survey on Peppermill Lake. Additionally, the Adams County Land and Water Conservation Department completed a point-intercept aquatic plant survey (PI survey) on July 18th. A PI survey provides a full snapshot of the plant community in our lake at the time the survey was conducted, including the presence and absence of native and invasive species, their density, and location. These surveys are essential in identifying and managing invasive species, ensuring the health and biodiversity of our lake. The results will be shared during the meeting, and we will discuss potential actions based on the findings.

2025 Lake District Budget: We will review and seek approval for the 2025 budget. This includes allocations for harvesting operations, ongoing maintenance, and other lake management activities. Your input on financial planning and resource allocation is essential to ensure we meet the community’s needs effectively.

Voting Rights and Procedures: As per the 2004 Wisconsin Act 275, please remember the following voting guidelines:

  1. Presence for Voting: You must be physically present at the meeting to vote. No proxies or absentee ballots are allowed.
  2. Property Ownership and Voting: Each property owner has one vote. Joint owners each have a vote.
  3. Living Trusts and Corporations: One vote per property held in a living trust. Corporate-owned properties allow one vote by the resident agent.
  4. Full-Time Residents: Full-time residents, including tenants, relatives, or roommates, can vote with proof of residency.
  5. Voting Procedures: Secret ballots are used for commissioner elections, and recounts can be requested.
